Night Chasers and Sky Seekers: Star Doomed

Night Chasers and Sky Seekers: Star Doomed
We, two sets of headlights on
an empty highway, chase the night,
swerving away from each other,
and from certain disaster.
I love when a phantom of me
passes through your conversations,
like the train you won’t ride
pausing at the station.
I imagine you scoffing at the cold metal,
cursing the innocent driver.
I want all your Scorn and Disdain.
Let me soak in their city shimmer,
their puffs of smoke seeking the sky.
They are as beautiful as the twinkle they hide.
I think of you sometimes,
Like an archaeologist dreaming of lives passed
Like stars, you shine as bright as the night I unveiled you.
Now you’re just another inhospitable object
in the ink-splotched ether.
We were doomed from the night we met,
to explode into cosmic dust,
from the moment we
gravitated towards one another.
